The Story
Not every custom home needs to be big. This couple — recent retirees from the Bay Area — had spent decades in a 4,500 square foot home they'd long since outgrown. Their brief was specific: three bedrooms (one for them, one for guests, one for hobbies), no wasted space, and a connection to the natural landscape around Champoeg State Park.
We designed a single-story plan that wraps around a central courtyard, bringing light into every room and creating private outdoor space protected from the wind. The main living area is intimate but never cramped — vaulted ceilings and a careful furniture plan make 2,800 square feet feel exactly right.
The result is a home that matches how they actually live: morning coffee on the covered patio, afternoons in the hobby room, evenings by the fireplace with the courtyard lit through floor-to-ceiling glass. Every square foot earns its place.

The low-profile design sits naturally in the landscape, framing views rather than dominating them.

The living area connects to the courtyard through floor-to-ceiling glass, blurring the line between inside and out.

An efficient kitchen that prioritizes quality over square footage — every drawer and cabinet is intentional.

The primary suite opens directly to the courtyard — a private retreat within a retreat.

Spa-inspired finishes in a bathroom designed for daily comfort, not just show.

Material choices — natural wood, stone, and metal — connect the home to its Pacific Northwest setting.
