Founded in 2003, Creekside Homes is dedicated to crafting high-performance custom homes in Northwest Oregon. Our founder, Andrew Burton, began his journey in the construction industry as a teenager, balancing high school with hands-on experience as an assistant to a local home builder and a carpenter on a framing crew. Through these early years, Andrew gained an intimate understanding of the home-building process, from initial vision to final completion, learning to navigate the inevitable challenges that arise along the way.
Andrew's commitment to building science was shaped by real-world lessons. During a remodel project, he uncovered water-damaged sub-sheathing and a disintegrated vapor barrier on a 20-year-old home. The culprit? An incorrect vapor barrier paired with cedar siding, where the cedar's tannins destroyed the barrier, leading to water intrusion. This experience underscored a critical truth: untested materials or techniques can lead to costly failures. It was a defining moment that emphasized the importance of informed, deliberate construction practices.
Another turning point came when Andrew noticed a troubling trend on job sites. When he asked builders and tradespeople why they followed certain practices, many simply replied, “That's how they're doing it across the street.” This lack of understanding revealed how widespread industry failures could occur when techniques or products were adopted without scrutiny. Determined to do better, Andrew founded Creekside Homes on a foundation of knowledge, precision, and a relentless pursuit of building the right way.
